Vet-approved dog food recipe for allergies

vet approved homemade dog food for allergies (1)

In this post we will be looking at a homemade dog food recipe that helped with my dog’s allergy, this recipe was shared by Dr. Jones (he is a vet) and since it helped my dog, I decided to share it with you.

This recipe includes ingredients that your dog is likely to react to.

Ingredients

Ground lean turkey

Brown rice

diced carrots

Eggs

Sunflower oils

Omega-3s in the form of krill or fish oil

Steps

I begin by cooking the rice, for this recipe, I will be using two cups of brown rice.

As I wait for the rice to cook, I dice my carrots, measure half a cup of the diced carrots, and use a small amount of water to blanch it.

Then I heat 1 lb of ground lean turkey in a pan (you can boil it if you want)

I crack open two eggs in a bowl and I know you might be expecting me to throw the eggshells but I won’t.

The eggshell is an additional way for you to natural calcium and that is why I put it in a coffee grinder and grind it.

I then pour the eggs into the heated ground lean beef and I mix it.

When the rice has cooked then it is time to mix everything up

I put the ground lean turkey in a bowl followed by two cups of cooked brown rice and half a cup of carrots.

For fat in this meal, I use sunflower oil because it has a great balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, it has linoleic acid which many dog diets don’t have, it has additional vitamin E, and it is a good natural ceramide for dogs that have allergies because helps protect and rebuild damages skin barrier

I add one tablespoon of sunflower oil per pound of meat.

I then add half a tablespoon of ½ ground eggshell for 1 lb of meat.

I will then mix everything very well.

After the mixing, I add krill oil. krill oil is an ideal source of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA and those are the key anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids that are very beneficial for our dogs with allergies.

I use Dr Jones’s krill oil which comes in capsule form so I just put it in my dog’s bowl when I serve him. Make sure the krill oil or fish oil you use is not exposed to sunlight and air.

I feed about 2 cups or  2½ cups of this food for 40 pounds of body weight daily.
