Best pin brush for dogs (find out the best for your dog’s coat type)

A pin brush for dogs is one of the grooming accessories I make sure I always have with me even when I am going on a trip with my pup.

As someone who has dogs of different breeds, I learned that different coats require different kinds of pin brushes.

It took me a while to find good pin brushes for all my dogs and to make it worse, I am a careless person (not proud), so when I lose one of their brushes and go back to buy it, I may not be in stock then I have to find another good one.

That is how I got to know a good number of quality pin brushes for dogs of different coats, so my carelessness was not detrimental I guess.

In this blog post, we will be looking at the best pin brush for dogs based on the length of the pins: short pin brush, medium pin brush, and long pin brush and the coats you are to use them on.

pin brush with short pins for dogs

Short and firm pin brushes are best for dogs with short coats like great Danes, beagles, and Boston terriers, for dogs with wired coats like dachshunds, and Scottish terriers, and other dogs with short and firm pins.

Chris Christensen 20mm oblong metal pin brush

The pins of this brush are made of stainless steel and the handle is made of lightweight beech wood, the tips of the pins are rounded which means it would be more gentle on your dog’s skin.

I got this for my small dog because of the size but if you won’t mind spending more time brushing your big dog then you can get it, we would also look at some bigger ones though.

This brush is really great for small dogs with short fur. I got it from Amazon.

Wahl premium pet double-sided pin and bristle brush

I got this from Amazon because someone in my neighborhood uses this for their wire-haired Vizsla and one of my dogs has a coat similar to that.

The pins are made from stainless pins and they are dual-level pins; they help to remove lower-level and top coat furs, the handle is made from rubber and has a nice grip.

I noticed that after a long time, some pins fell off but I don’t mind getting another one if more fall off because the brush is really functional.

If you have a big dog with a wired or short coat whether soft or firm, you should try this pin brush.

pin brush with medium-length pins for dogs

Pin brushes with pins of medium length are good for dogs with scissored coats like poodles and doodles, and for dogs with medium coats like German shepherds, golden retrievers, and American Eskimos.

This is a small brush with rounded tip stainless steel pins and a NO-slip grip rubber handle. I really enjoy using this and I think it is because of the design, it is so free and easy to use.

Use this on your small dogs with medium fur. It is available on Amazon.
