I remember when I was not so serious about my dogs’ ear hygiene, I did not clean the ears of my dogs regularly and one of them ended up having an infection. Well, I won’t say I was not to blame but I was also new to having dogs and I was still getting a hang of things.

The stress my dog went through and the money I spent also taught me a lesson and since then I have cleaned them regularly. However, the challenge I faced was finding the right dog ear wax removers to use because some did not work well and some irritated their ear which could lead to infection.

After a couple of times and recommendations from fellow dog parents, I got to know some really effective and safe dog ear cleaners that remove wax and we will be looking at them in this post.

Oxyfresh Advanced pet ear cleaner

This is a hypoallergenic ear wash that not only does a good job removing ear wax but also soothes irritation and itching. From my dogs’ reactions, I noticed that it does not have a burning effect which is suspect it is because it is alcohol free.

It foams a little and that is what helps with the stubborn ear wax and brown yeast build up. It is also dye-free, peroxide-free, and fragrance-free and made in the US.

If you have a puppy or dog with sensitive ears, this would really be good for them.

Makondo pets dog ear cleaner

I tried this dog ear wax remover because I was told that it is more natural and it is very effective, they use natural extracts and oils to make it. it dissolved the ear wax in the ears of my dogs and I guess it was because of the oils.

The peppermint oil and aloe vera in it would help soothe your dog’s ears. It has other natural ingredients like sage and lemon fruit that inhibit bacterial growth.  Also, your dog’s ears will smell like peppermint for a while. It is made in the US.

Zymox ear cleanser

A lot of people recommended this to me for my dogs’ ear wax and it was very effective and my dogs did not show any signs that it stings. This ear cleaner is made in the US.

This ear cleaner contains a mix of protein, enzymes, and some gentle cleaning substances that remove dirt and wax from the ear. This formula has an added biofilm-reducing complex that can clear germy biofilms that are hard to penetrate thereby preventing infection.

We love doodles organic ear cleaner

This is the second organic ear cleaner I have tried and it worked well.  It did a good job removing the wax from the ears of my dogs and I guess it is because of the olive oil and chamomile extract. The organic mullen oil and organic rosemary in the ear cleaner help prevent infection while the organic aloe helps soothe the ear.

This ear cleaner reduces odor from the ear which would be an effect of the witch hazel. It is made in the US.  This would be good for puppies and dogs with sensitive ears.

Vetquinol ear-cleaning solution

I know someone who uses this and she said it works well in removing wax from her dog’s ear and soothes and dries the ear.

I checked and it contains aloe vera which means it would really be soothing to the ear. She said it also helps reduce odor and I believe her because her dog’s ears look nice and don’t stink.
